UConn Forest Crew

What We Do

The UConn Forest Crew is dedicated to keeping our forests healthy, productive, and full of life! We actively manage UConn Forestlands to demonstrate the latest stewardship practices for private landowners, land trusts, and local communities. Our work creates resilient forests that benefit both people and the environment by:

  • Enhancing wildlife habitats, producing sustainable wood products, and creating new income opportunities.
  • Safeguarding water quality and rare/endangered species.
  • Providing a living laboratory for students and researchers to collaborate and develop practical skills in natural resource conservation.
  • Maintaining forests for recreation, education, and artistic inspiration.

Student Opportunities

If you are a UConn student, consider joining the Forest Crew! It is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience and develop valuable career skills:

  • Participate in a chainsaw safety class and learn to operate small-scale forestry equipment.
  • Assist with diverse research tasks, including forest inventorying, data collection, and experimental forest management operations.
  • Help lead demonstrations and informational events for landowners, professionals, and the public.
  • Gain skills in woodworking by producing firewood, lumber, and custom products!

Join the Crew to do any of these!
