Contacts and Directories
Are you looking for help with your woods? The first step may be to contact a CT State Service Forester. Service foresters are charged with helping landowners understand the forest resource and be effective stewards for their woodlands. CT service foresters are assigned to different areas of the state. If you need more than a chat about your forest, you can hire a certified forest practitioner. These professionals can assess your forest for timber, tax programs, or bird habitat, or they can set up a plan for improving wildlife habitat, or harvesting and re-growing trees for timber. On this page you can learn about the types of certification through the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection: Forestry Division.

This page is also home to the Directory of Certified Forest Practitioners. This document is full of important information about what it means for a person to be certified, what a forester can do for you, and tips about what to look for in a forester when hiring one, and a complete list of certified practitioners with the knowledge and licenses that you need for your woods and your ideas.
The Connecticut Forest and Parks Association, a non-profit that has been operating to the benefit of Connecticut’s forests since 1895, also maintains a Directory of Service practitioners. Here, you will be able to find Connecticut certified foresters to meet your needs, as well as links of both State and National programs to help you steward your woodlands.
